GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide designed to stimulate the release of endogenous growth hormone (GH). It belongs to the class of growth hormone secretagogues (GHSs), acting as a potent ghrelin receptor agonist. GHRP-2 has been widely studied in endocrinological research due to its consistent and reliable effect on GH secretion, appetite stimulation, and metabolic regulation.
GHRP-2 binds to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary and hypothalamus, mimicking the action of the natural hunger hormone ghrelin. This interaction stimulates a pulsatile release of GH, which in turn promotes anabolic effects, fat metabolism, and recovery processes. Compared to older GHSs, GHRP-2 is known for having a strong GH-releasing effect with moderate stimulation of prolactin and cortisol.
Preclinical data suggest GHRP-2 is well tolerated in research models. Observed side effects in animal studies may include increased hunger, mild water retention, and temporary elevation in prolactin or cortisol levels. Unlike some earlier GHRPs, GHRP-2 demonstrates a favorable balance of potency and selectivity, though long-term human data are limited and it remains a research-only compound.
GHRP-2 continues to be a valuable tool in the study of growth hormone dynamics, metabolic health, and appetite regulation. Its strong and reliable action makes it a popular choice for laboratories investigating endocrine signaling and regenerative physiology. GHRP-2 is for laboratory research use only and is not intended for human consumption.
